About Us
A Practice Built on Whole-Person Care
Vijapura Psychiatry is an established, multi-provider outpatient integrative psychiatry practice serving the greater Jacksonville, Florida region. Founded in 1991, the practice operates on four clinical pillars: expert medication management, integrated psychotherapy (CBT, ACT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing), nutritional psychiatry, and lifestyle modification. Our providers do not simply prescribe — they restore.
The practice is led by Sagar Vijapura, MD (President & Medical Director) and Priyanka Vijapura, MD (former Mayo Clinic Florida Assistant Professor; Practice Director). Providers work within a physician-led collaborative model that emphasizes clinical rigor, peer learning, and continuous growth. Our team includes board-certified PAs, PMHNPs, and an active APP Fellowship cohort.
"Psychiatry is more than a prescription pad. We're looking for providers who bring curiosity, depth, and genuine therapeutic presence to every encounter."
Position Overview
Who We're Looking For
The ideal candidate is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) who thrives in a collaborative, integrative outpatient environment. This is a clinically rich role: the majority of encounters combine medication management with integrated brief psychotherapy, meaning our providers hold both the diagnostic complexity and the therapeutic relationship simultaneously.
We are particularly interested in candidates who are receptive to learning within a physician-led model, genuinely committed to lifelong learning, and interested in integrative approaches — nutritional psychiatry, lifestyle medicine, somatic therapies — that align with our clinical philosophy. If you believe your best clinical work is still ahead of you, this is your practice.
You Will Excel Here If You…
- Are comfortable with diagnostic complexity — mood, anxiety, trauma, ADHD, and comorbid presentations
- Practice evidence-based psychotherapy and consider it part of your clinical identity, not just a billing add-on
- Have a genuine growth mindset — you seek supervision, peer consultation, and CME proactively
- Are receptive to physician oversight and collaboration and see it as a clinical asset, not a constraint
- Communicate with precision and warmth — in the room, in the chart, and with colleagues
- Are a lifelong learner — curious about emerging evidence, open to feedback, and invested in your own development
This Role May Not Be For You If…
- You prefer a high-volume, low-complexity panel with minimal therapy integration
- You are not comfortable working within a physician-led collaborative model
- You require a fully autonomous practice structure without oversight or peer consultation
- You are uncomfortable with performance-linked compensation or transparent productivity expectations
- Documentation quality and chart completeness are not a priority for you
Responsibilities
Clinical Scope & Expectations
The PMHNP will carry an outpatient panel of adult patients across mood, anxiety, trauma, ADHD, and related presentations. This is a hybrid position — providers are expected in office one day per week, with the remaining clinical days conducted via telehealth. The expected clinical cadence builds to 16–18 scheduled patients per day across 4.5 clinical days per week, with the majority of encounters combining evaluation and management with integrated brief psychotherapy.
Our patient population skews higher functioning and motivated — individuals who are engaged in their care, responsive to integrated approaches, and capable of meaningful participation in the therapeutic process. This is a clinically rewarding panel to carry.
Documentation burden is intentionally minimized through EMR automation: patient intake and pre-visit form responses flow directly into the clinical note, reducing redundant data entry and allowing providers to focus on clinical content rather than administrative charting.
- Comprehensive psychiatric evaluations — DSM-5 diagnostic formulation, risk stratification, and biopsychosocial integration
- Integrated follow-up visits — medication management combined with CBT, ACT, DBT, and/or motivational interviewing as clinically indicated
- Judicious use of controlled substances in accordance with practice protocols, applicable state regulations, and clinical best practices
- Documentation in PracticeQ EMR per practice standards; telehealth visits via Zoom Workplace with proper consent protocols
- Care coordination — warm handoffs to psychotherapists, PCPs, specialists, and community resources
- Nutritional psychiatry and lifestyle counseling integrated into clinical encounters as appropriate
- Bimonthly provider meetings — participation in team-based case consultation and clinical education sessions covering complex presentations and emerging clinical topics
- Clinical supervision with Dr. Sagar Vijapura and medical consultation regarding patient care with Dr. Priyanka Vijapura as needed

The Opportunity
Why Vijapura Psychiatry
- Genuine clinical depth. This is not a high-volume prescription service. Providers are expected to — and supported to — practice integrated, evidence-based psychiatry with real therapy integration built into the clinical model.
- Physician-led with hands-on collaboration. Dr. Sagar Vijapura is an actively practicing psychiatrist, not an absentee medical director. Supervision is available, engaged, and clinically grounded. Dr. Priyanka Vijapura provides additional medical consultation support.
- Established infrastructure. 30+ years in the Jacksonville market, credentialed with all major payers, with a billing team, EMR, and documentation systems already optimized. You practice. We handle the rest.
- A learning culture built in. Bimonthly provider meetings, APP fellowship peers, access to physician consultation, and a practice that actively invests in clinical education — for those who want to keep growing, there is always a next level here.
- Meaningful patient relationships. An integrated model means longer, richer relationships with motivated, higher-functioning patients — not 15-minute revolving-door follow-ups. Your clinical judgment is valued and expressed.
- Hybrid flexibility. One office day per week gives you the grounding of in-person care while the remaining three clinical days are conducted via telehealth — offering real schedule flexibility without sacrificing team connection or clinical quality.
- Minimal documentation burden. Patient form responses flow automatically into clinical notes through EMR automation, reducing redundant charting and preserving your time and energy for what matters — the patient in front of you.
- Jacksonville market. A growing metro with strong payer mix, significant unmet outpatient psychiatric need, and a lower cost of living relative to Miami or Tampa.
